PLACENCIA
1998
FIRST WE DROVE TO PLACENCIA
We decided to split our second trip to Belize between Ambergris Caye and the Placencia Peninsula.
Before leaving the states we made reservations with Kevin Lewis's Auto Rent Belize, CLICK TO LINK TO ) to rent a 4x4 Geo on arrival into the Belize. Kevin met us just outside of the customs area at the International airport and we were on our way to Placencia in just a few moments.
To get to Placencia from the airport we followed Kevin's directions into town and then towards Belmopan on the Western Highway. It took us about 50 minutes to reach Belmopan where we hung a left onto The Hummingbird Highway. In October 1998 the Hummingbird was torn up as they were beginning to repave the road. (Note - this project is now finished and the road is in great shape across the mountains).
It had rained very hard for a couple of days before our trip and the road was still wet and full of potholes, it took us the better part of 4 hours to drive to Placencia.
THE BLUE CRAB RESORT
We had reserved an A/C room at the Blue Crab Resort. Located just north of Seine Bight Village which is about 4-5 miles north of the village of Placencia at the very tip of The Placencia Peninsula.
The rooms at the Blue Crab were well furnished, clean and everything worked. We were in one of the concrete buildings with A/C. On the porch and scattered around the grounds were hammocks for the guests.
A pet Codi (Quash) wandered around the property, even though, she had been told to remain on the western side of the road. She minded just like our cats.
As we had our itinerary all planned, we did not avail ourselves of the offers of help in arranging tours from Linn and Kerry Goss the owners.
The Blue Crab has a small restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served each day. Linn is the chef and makes delicious breakfast breads. We also highly recommend her "Snapper Caribbean" for dinner..
By the end of a week, we knew that we would come back to the Placencia Peninsula and to the Blue Crab Resort in Seine Bight.
